Enough of Summer, Puh-LEEZE

I can't believe it is only Wednesday. This has been a sorry-ass week and it seems like it should be Saturday. Nothing specifically horrible, just totally and generally sucky. W4D and I are both working too hard and under pressure and we are trying to get adjusted to having the kidlet back home for a semester after four years of an empty nest. Plus, it finally feels like August and I abhor summer. It's just plain effin' sucky.

The only civilized part of the day lately is our cocktail hour. I make sure I get some relief between 6:00 and 7:30 pm before I whip up dinner. I've decided life without martini's is too dreadful to bear. I also always have fresh flowers in the house. There are some things I refuse to do without and flowers, cocktails and tasty munchies in a civilized manner must be included in my daily routine. It helps me to put up with the bull-crap I endure every day. W4D has come to expect it, too. Seems we can get through all the bull shit and fluff all the assholes all day long if we know that we will have an hour or two of a more gentle time together in the evening before dinner.

Cocktails last night were vodka martini's
with smoked oyster canapés.
The flowers are red and gold gladiolus.

Civilized Cocktail Hour

Smoked Oysters on English water biscuits
with roasted peppers, the best virgin olive oil
and fresh lemon oregano from my herb pot.

Smoked Oyster Hors d'oeuvres

I can't remember what dinner was.
I bet it was good.

Yum! Can I come to your house for dinner? And one more thing, have you been kind enough to tell W4D what DKNY means? If you don't, I will:) He's too sweet to suffer all the dang time:) JUST KIDDING. Hope the rain brings cooler weather your way. I'm off on errands.

Love you,

Kat of HSV

Well, I can't actually remember what we had for dinner. I only remember the cocktails. LOL

Yep, I told him what DKNY stands for and he even went to their web site but I will ask him again tonight and I'd bet good money that he won't remember.

Ready for another rainey day

meanwhile--have you tried the new blueberry vodka from stoli? it's FABULOUS! i have had two great martinis made with that this month--seems like it would be right up your alley. :)

oh, and sorry you are having a rather shittay week, too. you sound like i felt week before last! as my mother says to me daily--this too shall pass... (how trite does THAT sound? but you know what i mean--thinking good thoughts your way!)

Jackie,
Saw zee ads for zee Stoli Blueberry and must get some next time vee are in town. Ya! Send zome recipes!

This week turned into insanity. DD's boyfriend is out of ICU and will hopefully never ride a motor cycle again since he may just live to tell about it.

IN STLYE magazine has been a big boost to business. I've been working 12 hours a day since Tuesday. Must make hay while the sun shines (Maxim of Mother #129) and delighted to have so many new and pleasant customers.

W4D is slipping me margaritas in a steady stream since I have been tied to the puters and the stock room all weekend long. My sweet mother used to always tell me that "this too, shall pass." (Maxim of Mother #216). She was right, you know. :)) Miss my mother every day. Go give yours a big hug when you can.

Here's to a new week.

I told my daughter "this, too, will pass" when she was feeling sorry for herself about spending a couple of days on crutches with chondromalacia petellae (teenage girl knees). The reason those sayings keep getting repeated is that they are true.

Come to think of it, that's also what I told my BIL when he was lying flat on his back in the hospital with a thing screwed into his skull because he'd broken his neck tripping over his kitten and falling down the stairs. Believe it or not, that passed too.

Flaurella, I want to come to your house for dinner too. I don't care what you have. I always admire people who know how to "be lovely", to quote Edith Wharton. But last night my husband and I shared some kind of chocolate-butter cookie things we picked up at Walgreens and some decaf instant coffee while we watched an old Poirot movie. So it's not like we are totally without culture.

Laura,

I think that is one of the nicest compliments I have ever rec'd.
"I always admire people who know how to "be lovely", to quote Edith Wharton." Thank you so much!

Coffee and cookies sounds romantic. I hope you had the lights turned down low and were snuggled together on the sofa nibbling on each other's cookies.[G]
